What is Home Share?
Home sharing residences provide a home and caregiver support for individuals with a developmental disabilities. Our company will match residents with home sharing caregivers who best suit their individuals needs and offer support every step of the way.
What is my role?
The role of the caregiver is to provide a home and support for the individual. This can range from personal care and needs to welcome them as a member of your family. In some situations, members of the home spend a lot of time together and are actively involved in one another’s daily activities. In other homes, the arrangement is more independent.
Who will I be matched with? Do I get a choice?
Yes you do get a choice. At Thompson Community Services we match individuals and caregivers based on personalities and lifestyles.
How do I get paid?
Once approved to be a home sharing caregiver, you are added to Thompson Community Services payroll and will receive a direct deposit into your bank account twice a month.
How do I get a break?
Your contract includes funds to go towards respite. People who provide respite for you must be pre-approved by Thompson Community Services.
What do they need?
It varies depending on the individual you are placed with. They all need some level of support and supervision and may need any of the following things:
Assisting with life skills
Assisting with health issues
Assisting with personal care
Supporting community inclusion
Supporting individuals to maintain, develop or strengthen their relationships with families and friends
Supporting the individual to be safe in their home and community
